This is a follow up to my browns playoffs chances, as was requested by a couple people, but I will mark cbS550 as the official requester (is that a word?).
So here it goes: The New York Giants Playoff Chances
The problem with the Giants is that they have no possibility to grab their division, like the scenario in the AFC North. Best case scenario:
—Giants go 8-8 and Cowboys go 8-8. Now they’re tied. So now the tiebreakers happen:
—Well, if the giants win out, they would HAVE to beat the cowboys in their last game. The cowboys won earlier this year. That means this tiebreaker solves nothing.
—The NEXT tiebreaker is Division Record. Right now:
•Giants: 1-4 in Division (2-4 at best)
•Cowboys: 4-1 in Division (4-2 at worst)
Cowboys would be in the playoff anyways. And that’s not even factoring in the Eagles or the redskins. Not that the redskins have done anything since breaking two quarterbacks).

Now, you may be wondering what the WC chances are. And this is where there is a SLIVER of hope:
Seattle Seahawks are currently 8-5. Their next three games are against: 49ers, Chiefs, Cardinals. They’ll likely lose to the Chiefs. But they WILL get 1 more win. Which sets them ahead of the Giants ending on a perfect 3. That takes one of the two Wildcard spots.
The second WC spot is where it gets interesting:
The current WC contenders are (with records and next three games):
Minnesota Vikings (6-6-1): Dolphins, @Lions, Bears.
Vikings will likely fall to bears. Lions aren’t looking like they’ll stop the Vikings. Then you just have to reply on the dolphins. But that’s okay because the Dolphins are coming off a 2 game win streak, including one to the Patriots in the most stunning fashion. Vikings have been on a 2 game lose streak. A BAD lose streak. Losing by 14 to the patriots and then 14 to the Seahawks. Projected Ending Record (7-8-1), half a game behind a perfect record ending Giants.
Green Bay Packers (5-7-1): @Bears, @Jets, Lions.
Packers will likely fall to bears. Best record they can get by then is 7-8-1. Projected Ending Record (7-8-1), half a game behind a perfect record ending Giants.
Philadelphia Eagles (6-7): @Rams, Texans, @Redskins.
If the Eagles Win 2 games, you’re out due to the division record tiebreaker. You’re lucky their next 2 are the rams and Texans. Projected ending Record (7-9), behind a perfect record ending Giants.
Washington Redskins (6-7): @Jaguars, @Titans, Eagles.
I would be worried, but the Titans will beat them, and AT LEAST one of the other teams will beat them. They have not been playing well since their first quarterback got out. And even worse since the second. With a healthy quarterback? I’d be a worried giants fan. But I think you can be at peace. Projected Ending Record (6-10), 2 games behind a perfect record ending Giants.
NFC South: you shouldn’t have to worry about them. Buccaneers will lose to Ravens. And the second place team has been on a 5 game losing streak.... and plays the saints 2 more times this year.... in 3 games.

Now comes the real question: How likely is it that the giants really end on a perfect 3 game streak (using odds shark, myself, my sports-analyst "brother-in-law", and math):
Tennessee Titans @NY Giants: Projected Score: 23.3 to 20.6 in favor of Titans. The spread is only 2.5 points. This is very manageable, and what I would consider to be a 50/50 game. Show up, and you’ll win. Record after Week 15: (6-8).
NY Giants @Colts: Projected Score (not from odds shark, from my soon to be brother in law (he’s a sports analyst): 38-35 in favor of the Giants. However. Don’t count out a team in a different division altogether trying to make the playoffs themselves. Will be a tough game. Another 50/50 in my books. Record after Week 16: (7-8).
Cowboys @NY Giants: Projected Score: 17-10 in favor of the Cowboys. Their defense is fantastic. Plus, this game will possibly be the game where they can clinch a first round bye, and I don’t think you’ll get any secondaries coming at you with a first round bye in their vision. Will be a very tough game. Probably a 65/35 in favor of Cowboys. Record after Week 17: probably (7-9). BUT MAYBE (8-8)!!!

But wait, Mr. soccerhuelsman aren’t you forgetting that the Cowboys will be in between the Giants and a playoff spot if everything goes right?

Yes I am. In all actuality. I can see either team winning this game. But people will bitch at me if I say that I truly think it’s a 50/50, as i did with my previous ravens vs. browns game. So I will leave it at 65/35. Now if you multiply all of these possibilities together you get:
0.5*0.5*0.35 = 0.0875, or an 8.75% chance to go perfect through the rest of the season. This doesn’t even account for all of the other things within the rest of the division that have to go right.
I do NOT think the Giants have more of chance to get to the playoffs, as the Giants just need so much more to go right for them, AND I didn't even account for the WC spot for the Browns, which would only raise their chances from 2%. The giants are sitting at a solid less than 1% chance in my opinion, and are about as likely to make it as the Bengals (0.2% from my calculations).
Tl;dr: Someone requested I do this, and I learned that the Giants have a possible chance to make it as the second wildcard in the NFC. Is the chance very high? No. I would put it at less than 1%, as compared to about a solid 2% chance for the browns.
