Most games that can't be played offline immediately return to dashboard and state that an Internet connection is required, but this one attempts to load like a normal game but never does. Steam just comes up in "offline" mode and starts Subnautica as usual. The "F8" feedback menu in Subnautica won't work without a live internet connection. Otherwise, it runs as normal. The only kind of game you shouldn't be able to play in offline mode are online multiplayer games. There was only the bare map. Now that might just have been a one time glitch. But I've tried to play it offline at home and it just sits on the screen with the crashed aurora, the guy on the life pod and the blue fish thing and doesn't load or anything.
